User Reviews
A Clear Upgrade for Performance-Focused Gamers
I've been playing story games and competitive titles for several weeks, and the overall experience has been excellent. Frame drops in fast-paced scenes and large open worlds are gone, and loading times are faster than the PS5 Slim. Picture quality is sharper and more stable on a 4K OLED display. Heat and noise are well managed, staying quiet even during long play sessions. However, you need a good display and performance-focused games to truly see the benefits.
Upgraded from PS4 Pro, Extremely Satisfied
I bought it on sale and it was a great decision. Games I played on PS4 Pro look much better and load faster. Yakuza Kiwami 2 feels like a completely different game. Colors are much more vivid and image quality is excellent. The downside is there's no optical audio output, so I had to buy new speakers and a Bluetooth adapter separately. Overall, I'm very satisfied.
Stable Frame Rate is the Key
The key to PS5 Pro is stable 60fps utilizing the PSSR feature. You can definitely feel Star Wars Outlaws maintaining 60fps at Fidelity mode quality. I also use an RTX 4090 PC, but it's nice to have a similar experience on PS5 Pro in the living room. However, not all games benefit from Pro. Games without Pro patches like Cyberpunk 2077 run the same as before. It's good to prepare ahead for big titles like GTA6, but it's not essential right now.
Value is Questionable but Performance Boost is Real
Testing Stellar Blade and FF7 Rebirth, graphics and performance upgrades are clear. But at $700 with no disc drive or stand, you're actually paying $780 or more. If you're happy with your current PS5, no need to buy now— better to wait for price drops or more game support. With limited Pro-supported games currently, the value proposition doesn't add up.
Patched Games are a Completely Different Experience
Pro-patched games are truly different. Stellar Blade looks like a completely different, cleaner game. All the noise and artifacts from Performance mode on the original PS5 are gone. Lighting and reflection effects are 2-3 times more detailed. Even unpatched games run with more stable frames and no stuttering. The darkening issue when using 120Hz can be fixed by forcing 1080p settings.
A Huge Leap Coming from PS4
Those coming from PS4 will love this. Loading times are almost non-existent and fast travel is instant. It supports 4K resolution up to 120fps, and ray tracing makes lighting and reflections realistic. 3D audio with headphones lets you accurately pinpoint sound direction for incredible immersion. The DualSense controller's haptic feedback is amazing. Unlike the PS4's jet engine noise, it runs quietly.
Best When Paired with an OLED Monitor
I upgraded from PS5 Slim and can feel the system performance and graphics difference. Menu selection is faster and loading is slightly quicker too. You can see clear differences with PSSR upscaling and Performance mode. Detail is good even at 60fps and 120fps is stable. If you have a Slim, upgrade to a 4K 120Hz TV or monitor first, then move to Pro.
Great Performance but Feels Incomplete
2TB storage, powerful GPU, sleek design— it lives up to the Pro name. Ghost of Tsushima Fidelity mode runs at high fps and controller response is faster. But PSSR sometimes causes shimmering that's noticeable on details like foliage. No disc drive included is really disappointing, and nearly double the price of the Digital Edition is a burden. If you want top performance, you'll be satisfied, but if you don't need that level of difference, the base PS5 is enough.
