Premium Headphone Comparison

I've used many premium headphones.
The ANC is definitely top-tier,
completely blocking out window AC noise.
Sound quality is satisfying after 10-band EQ adjustments—
like Apple AirPods Max clarity
combined with Bose bass.

However, being over-ear, my ears don't fully fit inside the cups,
and comfort is slightly less than QC Ultra.
Turn off DSEE Extreme to avoid crackling!

Comparison with Bose QCU Gen2

Tested on a 5.5-hour flight to Hawaii.
Sony was more comfortable to wear.
Bose's ANC would stop every time I turned my head,
but Sony worked perfectly no matter how I moved.

Sony's case design is much better too.
The magnetic lock is really convenient
and the accessory pouch is well-designed.
Bose's case was awkward to zip closed.

Upgrade from XM4

Upgraded from XM4,
and it's much better when tuned for specific uses.
But I can't find an all-around EQ setting
that works for music, movies, and gaming.

Optimizing for one use ruins the others,
and the ear cups are too small for more than an hour.
Ended up going back to XM4.
Not great value as an all-purpose headset.

Perfect for Sensory Sensitivity

I'm on the autism spectrum with severe sensory issues.
Tried them while mowing the lawn and it was life-changing!
My Honda gas mower sounds like a small fan.

The app is really inconvenient though,
so I turned off adaptive controls and deleted it.
It makes no sense for ANC to turn off when there's noise.
Works fine with just pairing, no app needed.
Lightweight and comfortable.

Worthwhile Upgrade from XM4

Was an XM4 user and glad I upgraded.
Noise canceling is still the best,
and the touch panel works just like the XM4.

Ear cups are comfortable for hours of use.
If you want high-quality sound and noise canceling,
I recommend getting these when you have the budget.

Not Recommended for PC Gaming

Bought for LDAC low-latency gaming,
but Windows doesn't decode LDAC.
When running games, it switches to hands-free mode,
degrading sound quality or cutting audio completely.

Can't use mic and high-quality audio simultaneously.
Fine for mobile use only,
but definitely not recommended for PC gaming.

Evolution of ANC Technology

ANC headphones 15-20 years ago were terrible.
The pressure on my ears was so intense I couldn't wear them long.
The XM6 has completely eliminated that pressure!

Passthrough mode is natural,
and passive isolation is quite good
even with both ANC and passthrough off.
The downside is small ear cups—
hard for people with larger ears to wear for extended periods.

Fit Disappointment

Sound quality is great and with ANC on,
it feels like you're in your own world.
But the fit is an issue.

I keep having to adjust the position,
and my ears hurt especially when wearing glasses.
Ended up buying separate ear pads.

Creaking Fix

Sound and ANC are top-notch,
but there was creaking when moving my head.
Found that the ear cup seal was rubbing against plastic.

Removed the ear pads, applied a little talc powder,
and put them back on—problem solved.
A bit disappointing for the price though.
